Meditating On The Testimony

A beautiful thing happens when you meditate on the goodness of God — every facet of your life becomes saturated with His presence.

To meditate simply means to think, pray, and talk about. Too often in life, we can meditate on the problem and not the answer. When we choose to focus on what God has done, His peace rushes in and our perspective changes. Suddenly the problem that looked like a mountain in front of us now pales in comparison to the overwhelming goodness of God.

However, if you are anything like me, you can find yourself in moments of frustration, confusion, and anxiety. Maybe your bills are late and you have no idea how you are going to pay them. Maybe someone close to you is still battling a lingering sickness that has been robbing them of joy. Maybe you feel like the walls of life are closing in on you with no hope of release.

Whatever you are facing, know this: God’s goodness can change everything in a moment.

When we meditate on the wonderful things that God has done, instead of the problems in front of us, we position ourselves to receive a fresh miracle from Him.

I have personally experienced hundreds, if not thousands, of moments where God’s goodness has broken into a seemingly hopeless situation. To help myself remember all of these moments I began journaling and chronicling all of the times I saw God move. I knew that I could not afford to trust my memory to hold the priceless stories of how He did the impossible. I began to carry a small black journal with me everywhere I went. When the miraculous broke out, I pulled out that journal and wrote. I knew that the pangs of life would again come and that there were future moments where I would need to remind myself of what God had done in the past. That journal has become a well of faith in my life that I frequently draw from.

My current writing project draws stories from that very journal. Every story in this project I witnessed firsthand. My prayer is that the testimonies you read would now be a part of how you strengthen yourself in the Lord. If there is a specific story that applies to your circumstances, I encourage you to meditate on it until the breakthrough comes. Read the story over and over until you have faith that God can do the same thing in your life. Pray that God would give you a story of your own — that the miraculous would break out. Share these stories with your friends, family, co-workers, and strangers.

Whatever you do, don’t let your mind wander into the sea of endless negative possibilities and what-ifs about your circumstances. Choose instead to believe that God wants to do a similar miracle in your life, and in the lives of those around you.
